2017 Scholarship Winner

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the winner of our annual Letchworth Scholarship this year….Linsey Rissinger from Letchworth Central School. High school senior students from the 5 area school districts bordering the park (Keshequa, Letchworth, Mt. Morris, Perry, and York) were eligible to participate. This year students were asked to submit an essay (minimum of 350 words) based on the impact that our new Humphrey Nature Center and its programs have around us.

“The Friends of Letchworth State Park” has been giving this award several years now to a graduating senior high school student. Our regional park director, Rich Parker, has graciously matched our award bringing it to $500 the last couple of years. Thanks Rich!

Linsey was honored at our luncheon following “I Love My Park Day” today with Rich Parker presenting the award.

Linsey is the daughter of Debby and Scott Rissinger from Gainesville. Linsey will be attending SUNY Brockport majoring in meteorology. We wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors!!

I Love My Park Day 2017 – A Success

We had a great turn out today. Even though we were dampened by the rain, our spirits could not be. Plenty of projects were accomplished and new Friends made. Thank you to everyone who made Letchworth State Park’s I Love My Park Day 2017 a success.

If you have pictures that you’d like to submit for this article from the project you worked on, please send them to friends@friendsofletchworth.com. If you’d like to do more projects like these, become a member today.

1st Trail Clearing Event a Success!

Thank you to all who came out for the first trail clearing event.  Mother Nature was a bit brisk to start but the cool temps and cloud cover made for the perfect working weather.

The Assistant Park Manager and new FoLSP Trail Chairman went over rules and guidelines for working as a volunteer within the park.  The crew then loaded up and headed out to the bottom of the trail head so we could work our way up the trail.  If you click on the photos there is descriptions of our progress.

We learned the need for our new trail crews is in high demand.  Letchworth will be hosting an Ultimate Marathon covering nearly the entire length of the park on both sides!  Trail 13 is just 1 of the many trails that the path will take and it needed help!

If you’re interested in helping keep the trails open and safe please join Friends of Letchworth State Park!  Not sure who we are?  Join in the fun on I Love My Park Day and find out!
