Congratulations and Best Wishes to the winner of our annual Letchworth Scholarship this year….Linsey Rissinger from Letchworth Central School. High school senior students from the 5 area school districts bordering the park (Keshequa, Letchworth, Mt. Morris, Perry, and York) were eligible to participate. This year students were asked to submit an essay (minimum of 350 words) based on the impact that our new Humphrey Nature Center and its programs have around us.
“The Friends of Letchworth State Park” has been giving this award several years now to a graduating senior high school student. Our regional park director, Rich Parker, has graciously matched our award bringing it to $500 the last couple of years. Thanks Rich!
Linsey was honored at our luncheon following “I Love My Park Day” today with Rich Parker presenting the award.
Linsey is the daughter of Debby and Scott Rissinger from Gainesville. Linsey will be attending SUNY Brockport majoring in meteorology. We wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors!!
Mt. Morris, N.Y. (WHAM) – In 2015, Letchworth State Park was named USA TODAY’s Readers’ Choice for Best State Park. A small group has quietly been trying to make “best” even better.
It began when Loren Penman of Batavia had a conversation with a friend about the effect the park had on her grandson who lives near Albany. Her grandson is on the autism spectrum.
